Things to know about the Estate..

You will see that the estate beyond the formal gardens is a mixture of meadows and wooded areas. You are asked to take special care to avoid any fire hazards and to ensure that children in your party do likewise. Please do not drop matches carelessly, allow any fires to be lit or do anything likely to cause a danger to yourselves or the property.      For this reason and the comfort and safety of following guests smoking is strictly prohibited in the villa.

The grounds lie within a special area of springs which supply drinking water to the local villages.   It is therefore illegal to place anything toxic in the grounds of the estate or do anything to endanger the quality of the drinking water.   Camping is frowned upon by the authorities.

There are many birds within the estate from small species to game birds and large birds of prey. Also deer and the occasional wild boar, although both are very secretive and the boar are best left alone should you encounter any protecting young. The best time to see the deer is in the very early morning although I have recently encountered half a dozen eating apples dropped from the tree in the centre of the adjacent field.   We have red squirrels attracted by hazel nut trees but they are smaller and you need a sharp eye.  Buzzards call to each other as they circle above and the call of the owls can be heard after dusk.    The jays visit in gangs and occasionally disturb the peace but the continual sound of crickets on hot days feels almost tropical.  Three main varieties of lizards can be found, some of which are exotically coloured as are the butterflies.    There is always the chance this far south of encountering a number of rarer species of bird which are never resident back home.

Locals belonging to a registered and controlled club use grounds surrounding the villa for hunting in the winter season, usually on a Sunday.

The local beauty spot known as Roche de Vic is about half a mile along the road and can be seen from the villa.
